Monthly Archives: September 2012

These first two articles are required reading. I will bring copies in next week.

truth in landscape

of mother nature and marlboro men

This link is for the Foucault article I talked about on Thursday.

Of Other Spaces

And another essay by Rosalind Krauss on photography.

Photography’s Discursive Spaces

If there is interest, we can discuss these two articles in class.

For assignment three, Typologies.

A typology is a study of type or forms, often shot from the same angle, and form a type of catalog.

In class we looked at a variety of different types, industrial, signs, drive in theater signs, global cities, closed store fronts, barns,  and empty swimming pools.

Please study a form of your choice and create your own typology.

Please bring in at least 5 prints for critique.

Emmet Gowin
Renowned photographer Emmet Gowin will open the 10th Anniversary PhotoAlliance Lecture Series and will speak on his long involvement with photography.

A lifetime of images from intimate portraits of family and of his wife, Edith, aerial photographs, strip mining sites, nuclear testing fields, large-scale agricultural fields and other scars in the natural landscape, lyrical montages of moths in Panama, and more, rarefied images of Edith.
